Prior Written Notice Request Letter

The most powerful tool in your advocacy toolkit. Forces the school to document their decision in writing when they say "no" to your request.

About this template

When a school refuses your request verbally, you can ask "Please provide that in Prior Written Notice." Under IDEA Section 615(b)(3), the school MUST provide a written document explaining what they're refusing, why, what evidence they considered, what alternatives they rejected, and your procedural rights. This letter template makes the request formal and ensures the school takes it seriously. Many parents report that simply requesting PWN causes schools to reconsider their refusal.
